Keynote speaker at the ‘Quo Vadis Europa?’ seminar in Santander

Professor Loukas Tsoukalis, was invited for the second consecutive year to deliver the keynote address at the annual Quo Vadis Europa? seminar, organized by the former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at the historic Palácio de la Magdalena in Santander, Spain (25–29 August 2025). Professor Tsoukalis opened the seminar with a lecture titled “Europe in the New Geopolitical Landscape,” contributing to the high-level discussions on the challenges and strategic choices facing the European Union in an increasingly complex international environment.

11th Annual China and Globalization Forum

Professor Loukas Tsoukalis, participated in the 11th Annual China and Globalization Forum, held in Beijing on 22–23 May 2025. He spoke at the Opening Roundtable titled “Renewing Global Governance and Multilateralism in Uncertain Times,” as well as on the second day of the conference at the panel “EU-China at 50: The State of the Bilateral Relationship in a Changing World.” He also participated in the closed door roundtable on EU-China Think Tank Exchange.

Online discussion titled “Towards a New European Commission”, organized by UK in a Changing Europe.

The event delved into several key themes surrounding Ursula von der Leyen’s upcoming second term as President of the European Commission. Discussions focused on the EU’s approach to European security amid rising geopolitical tensions, the future of the Green Deal and the potential for it to be scaled back, as well as the impact of new member states potentially joining the Union. The session also explored how the EU will manage its relationship with the UK, and its evolving diplomatic ties with global powers like the US and China.

The speakers included: Catherine Barnard (Chair), University of Cambridge and UK in a Changing Europe; Loukas Tsoukalis, ELIAMEP; Sophie Pornschlegel, Europe Jacques Delors; and Fabian Zuleeg, European Policy Centre.
